Crazy Yarn Lady is the result of decades of saying "someday, I want to own a yarn business". After years of having that idea marinating in the back of my mind, I opened Crochetworks; where I sold (and still sell) custom crocheted items for sale. Crochetworks lived as it's own entity for about 10 years before the idea began to expand into what is now becoming Crazy Yarn Lady. My goal is to bring the fiber arts and supplies to underserved or unserved areas. While we are beginning with a website and store, our end goal is a mobile yarn store that will travel to rural areas, fiber festivals, corrections facilities, care homes, and other underserved regions; providing access to supplies and teaching crochet as both anxiety management and a lifelong survival skill!
1985
Gave birth to my first child, spent my pregnancy crocheting blankets and clothes for him. It was during this time that I discovered a market for hand crocheted baby items and a "someday" was born.
1988
Gave birth to my second child. We lived in Lake Placid, NY at that time and the only source for yarn was Kmart, in the next town over. This is when "I should open a yarn store" began to roll around in the back of my mind.
1989
Gave birth to my third child and my first daughter. Started sewing dressings, crocheting blankets and sweaters for her and for her older sister. Yarn was much easier to find but the selection was mostly acrylic.
1990
Gave birth to my fourth and final child, making blankets and household needs through my entire pregnancy. At this point, the idea of a store got tabled while I raised a family.
2016
Moved to Iowa and decided that at the very least, I should try to sell what I make and see what the market looks like for yarn and crocheted/knitted items. Crochetworks was born!
2025
Watched several local yarn stores close due to covid or to local construction and eminent domain claims. Went back to college to get my degree in Business Management. Saw a huge craft mogul go out of business, which severely limited the access to yarn options. Took a huge leap of faith and decided "one day" was going to be "day one"! Crazy Yarn Lady evolved from Crochetworks and here we are!
